Geography (Grade 7 and 8)

Grade 7 and 8 Geography curriculum builds on foundational concepts to provide students with a deeper understanding of the world, focusing on the interrelationships between physical environments and human activities. Both grades emphasize the development of geographic inquiry skills and concepts of geographic thinking. Students engage in a variety of activities that encourage critical thinking, inquiry, and the use of geographic tools.


Topics include: 


-Landforms

-Water systems

-Climate regions

-Vegetation regions

-Natural events: earthquakes, floods, and droughts 

-climate patterns: ocean currents, wind systems, latitude, elevation, and climate graphs

- Field studies on recreational, commercial, industrial, and transportation.

-Natural Resources: renewable, non-renewable, and flow resources.

-Extraction/harvesting: mining, logging, and oil sands

-Indigenous perspectives: land rights, resource management and sustainability.

-Human Settlement Patterns

- Quality of life indicators: infant mortality rates, literacy rates, and GDP

- Exploring economic systems: primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary economic sectors

- Inequalities: UNICEF, Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders 

- Investigating global issues: poverty, food insecurity, and access to education
